Guy Berg 4 June

Berg Party Return Trip (3-4 June 2019)

Lithos Wine Farm. Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Spookfontein. Ataraxia. Domaine Des Dieux.

We’ll be escaping the city for a tour one of the Western Cape’s gems, The Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley in the Overberg region. Blessed in rich forna and flora and some of the best wines the province has to offer, this serves as the ideal one day excursion.

Overnight at lithos wine farm

This exquisite private Log Cabin is nestled in the pine forests, on the boutique wine farm, Lithos Wines.

Located on a secure Country Estate overlooking the Helderberg mountain range in Somerset West. It has its own entry into the Hottentots Holland Game Reserve in Somerset West and shows off the very best of the cape fauna and flora. The cabin also has an indoor fireplace for those cold June evenings. Dinner will be arranged a nearby restaurant.

Morning Hike: Fernkloof Trail

After an early start we’ll be heading further inland over the iconic Sir Lowry’s mountain pass toward the Overberg Region. Our preferred private Mountain Guide, Andreas, will be on hand to take us through the Kleinrivier Mountain Range to the top of the valley.

We’ll take a rest and have a cup of coffee and snacks while enjoying the fabulous views before we continue down a different but equally scenic route.

lunch at spookfontein

Boasting unrivaled views of the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley from their restaurant, Spookfontein serves as the perfect midday lunch stop after your hike.

The restaurants ' menu is a take on contemporary country cooking, where rustic comfort food is given a new updated persona on the plate. When combined with the stunning view and the wine, Spookfontein becomes the farm for long languid lunches. Gluten Free Options Available.

quaint tasting experiences

Ataraxia (Pictured): This speaks perfectly to your desire for non commercial, uninterrupted and unique experiences. The chapel like tasting room and the most vast open view of the valley makes for incredible photo opportunities. We’ve yet to see a traveler who is not impressed by these wines and this location.

Domaine des Dieux: The smallest tasting room in the region is our last wine experience, award winning MCC’s are the ideal way to celebrate a and close off a day in the valley.

Please take note: It will be around 5pm by the time we finish at the last wine farm. We’ll then head back to Cape Town via the town of Caledon and back down Sir Lowry’s Pass. I understand you don’t want to be at the airport too early, in which case I’ll source an ideal restaurant in the town of Somerset West which is a mere 25 minute drive to Cape Town International.
