6 April - 12 April 2019
We’re delighted that you have shown a great interest in experiencing the African bush. April is a great time to be traveling to this part of the country as it’s the back end of the summer and an ideal time to exprience animals and hopefully every single member of the big 5 and more. Below you’ll find a 7 Day, 6 Night Itinerary which is made up of 2 nights in Marloth Park, 2 nights at the Africamps in Nelspruit and 2 nights in a wonderful
bush lodge in the Hoedspruit area.
You’ll have your own private tour guide and companion (Blaine) who is well traveled along this route. We’ll travel in a 7 seater vehicle together with a baby seat if needed. Please take a careful look at each location, we can go about deciding on the various activities as soon as we have established your preferences.
Here’s what you can look forward during the week:
6th - 8th April 2019 (Marloth Park & Eden Safari Country Lodge)
Our journey starts as we head north east for the renowned wildlife area of Marloth Park. From OR Tambo International Airport we’re in a for a 5 hour drive excluding stops. We’ll drive at your pace and in such a way that ensures the comfort of your family considering the age of your son :)
Our first stop for the tour is the beautiful Eden Safari Country Country Lodge (pictured below). An upmarket luxury Country House nestled in 4000ha of African Bush 17 km from the world renowned Kruger National Park. Finished in all natural materials guests have their own home in the bush with a butler service to make your stay relaxing, at no additional charge. The main living area is entirely on the ground floor and the bedrooms are located on the first floor, this elevated position offers 180 degree views of the natural bush and the waterhole. The sundeck is the perfect place to see the waterhole and watch the large variety of animals that frequent it. Eden Safari Country House offers guests an unforgettable wildlife and bird watching experience.
After checking in and a few relaxing drinks around the pool, Blaine will then go about preparing a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) with local meats and sides the way it should be done. The social aspects behind a braai is something that is instilled in SA culture, a must do when in the bush.
Day 2 is all about relaxation and exploring the area. After breakfast, which we prepare together we’ll head down to the crocodile river and look for animal activity by the water. In the afternoon we’ll venture into the Kruger Park on either a self-drive safari experience or we’ll be picked up by a safari vehicle and driven into the park. It’s important to remember that not all operators cater for infants under 6 years old. We’ll investigate which options will be best, however when doing a self-drive (Blaine drives) your son will be allowed to take part. Marloth Park has a host of activities to please. Have a look here. We spend 3-4 hours on Safari and watch the sunset as we look for the illusive leopard as it starts to move famously when darkness sets in.
Dinner is then again prepared by Blaine back at the Eden Safari Country Lodge and we’ll share a few stories from our day and drinks in true African style around the fire.
8th - 10th April (The Glamping Experience at Africamps)
After breakfast at the lodge we’ll start our journey north toward the Mackers Africamps. One of South Africa’s most sought after glamping experiences, you’ll love our local twist on it! Set on the banks of the Sabi River.
The luxury boutique glamping tents are all facing the river just a few meters from the streaming water and are surrounded by lush green grass and indigenous forest. The camp is just a few minutes’ drive from Hazyview, a small farming town that is famous for its banana, macademia and coffee industry, but even better known for it’s easy access to the Panorama route and the Kruger National Park.
The perfect place to relax and explore when looking to spend some time in the Mpumalanga bush. Hear the nearby wild animals at night from the comfort of your luxury tent or walk a few meters over the soft grass to dip your toes into the river right in front of you. Spend some time in your own backyard taking a swim in the large swimming pool or taking a beautiful hike from your tent to admire the breath-taking scenery of waterfalls and wild rapids further up the river.

Our two days here will be spent exploring the Panorama route, a visit to God’s Window, the famous 3 Rondavels and Bourkes Luck potholes. We’ll again venture into the Kruger National Park on Safari as we look to tick as many animals off our list as possible.
Blaine will once again prepare a braai on one of the nights (we’ll learn to braai together) and the 2nd night we’ll have dinner in the town of Hazyview at a local Bistro.
10th - 12th April (Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate)
Once we have been fulfilled by our awesome Glamping experience we head even further north for the Hoedspruit region for 2 more nights of real relaxation in our own space. The town of Hoedpruit is a real bush favorite for all bush loving purists. Packed with loads of activities and history as well as being well situated just 20 minutes from the closest gate of the Kruger Park.
We’ll visit the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre where you’ll able to experience some of the most sought after and protected members of the animal kingdom, including the King Cheetah.
Our accommodation is found at the Bush Retreat inside the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. A 6 sleeper private house owned by a close friend of Reveler Tours, we’ll pull out all the stops. Enjoy local wines, gins and or beers on the stoep (SA word for porch) while various breeds of Antelope wonder in the garden. At this location we get as close to nature as we possibly can, the roaming animals are literally our neighbors here. Dinner options are a plenty here, on this part of the trip we allow the guests to show us their braaing skills they have learned over the last few days. It’s a kind of Guest vs Guide Braai Off! There are also loads of great restaurant options in the nearby town.
Our penultimate day starts early as we venture toward the Kruger National Park once again. Entering at the Phalaborwa gate, prepare for a half day in the park as we go on search for our last viewings. We’ll pick a road most famous for Elephants as we hope to experience these gentle giants close up.
As an alternate activity for the day we head south to give Jessica the Hippo a visit. With this animal, this is definitely not the case since she loves interaction with humans and she displays mind-boggling characteristics which makes us wonder about our approach towards wild animals. First we will show you a video about Jessica and her history. We will then move down to the raft and feed Jessica the snack of the day. After the snack we will give her 2 bottles of tea. We will then move on to giving her a back rub with our feet and we will sit with Jessica for a while.
The day ends with wine or gin tasting and a pizza at the Safari Wine Club. Owned by very good friends of Reveler Tours, The Poole family will go to great lengths to ensure an unforgettable tasting experience for you and your family.
The route back to Johannesburg is a 5 hour trip. Depending on the time of your flight we’ll decide on the final day itinerary once we have this information.

Warmer clothes for the evening (just in case)
Malaria tablets (please consult your doctor, the area where we will be traveling is extremely low risk)
Comfortable walking shoes
Whatever additional equipment you need for your son
Lots of positivism and good feels!
Things to keep in mind:
We’ll have to work closely together to come up with a feeding plan for your son. I am more than willing to help put together food packs for each day for him but I would need your help. It is vary rare that Safari Companies will allow an infant on an open air vehicle, these laws are not avoidable. Therefore we will be doing self-drives into the Kruger Park when your son comes with. If you do want to experience a safari in an open air vehicle (I suggest this) then we can arrange for this as long as one adult stays at the accommodation with your son.
We travel at your pace
I understand it can be challenging traveling in a foreign country with a young child. We’ll conduct the tour with this in mind and we’ll operate completely at your pace regardless of the planned schedule. My top priority is you and your family’s well-being.
Host / Vendor:
Your host will be Blaine Smith, a local South African tour guide. Blaine has lived in 6 of South Africa’s 9 different provinces and currently ventures all over the country on various expeditions. Extremely well traveled, with a wealth of knowledge and an unrivaled passion for his country, you’ll be in the best of South African hands. He loves to engage and learn about different cultures.
