Here’s what you can look forward to over 2 incredible days:
Day 1 - The Robertson Wine Valley, packed with fun experiences.
Departing Cape Town at 9am we’ll head for the impressive Huguenot Mountain Range and on our way out to the first wine valley in Robertson. Once going through the famed Huguenot tunnel we’ll make a quick roadside coffee stop.
Our first tasting destination is upon us by 11am as we arrive at Graham Beck Winery. An incredible range of sparkling wines await, each bubbly will cater to every mood, taste and occasion. A celebration is the perfect way to kick off this tour, sit back, relax and enjoy. These wines were chosen by both Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama as the bubbly of choice at both of their respective presidential inaugurations.
A winery and deli set on the banks of the Breede River sets the scene for our next stop. Trail your feet in the cool waters of the Breede River, while toasting the good life with a glass of Viljoensdrift wine on board their elegant flat-bottomed river boat named Uncle Ben 2. The approximately 1 hour-long meander along the river, flanked by indigenous Breede River Yellowwood and Wild Olive trees teeming with a variety of bird species, sets the scene for a leisurely riverside experience. Fill your picnic basket to the brim with sumptuous fare from the deli, add a bottle or two of Viljoensdrift’s fine wines and enjoy your picnic during your trip down the river.
The Excelsior Wine Estate and Tasting Room is our third stop where you’ll get the chance to blend your very own bottle of wine. From start to finish, this will truly be your own creation. Taste, blend, bottle, seal and design your own label in just 45 minutes. The perfect gift to take back home or drink the very same night, share and compare with friends!
Our overnight accommodation will is based in where your tour companions will prepare a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) coupled with tasty side dishes. (Vegetarian + vegan options available). In true local fashion, everyone on tour gets involved in the braai. Someone on drinks, a few in front of the grill and others in charge of side dishes, this is loads of fun as we create and share an enjoyable meal together.
Day 2 - The Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Valley, where the wine quality reaches new heights!
After breakfast we head south toward the Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Valley which translates directly into ‘Heaven & Earth’. Cooled by Atlantic breezes, carpeted in vineyards and folded in the arms of fynbos mountains, this wine paradise near the beautiful coastal town of Hermanus, produces (some might say) some of the best cool-climate wines in the world.
Creation Wines is our first stop of Day 2. In the words of the winemaker: “we strive to reward the wine lover with wine of rare balance, elegance, distinction & finesse” . Taste up to 4 wines in their cozy and beautifully designed tasting room or sit out on the lawns and take in the morning sun knowing that is indeed acceptable to revel in wine before noon!
Possibly the most unique tasting room in all of South Africa is our next stop. The chapel like design of the Ataraxia Wine Farm is a firm favorite of Remote Year Groups in the past. ‘Ataraxia’ a greek word meaning “a serene state of mind, free from worry and preoccupation” , they’ve named location suitably. You’ll be treated to the most spectacular views of the tour so far. and some of SA’s most exciting wines.
The Moggs Country Cookhouse is our lunch stop, a hearty countryside restaurant that serves up a menu perfect for both the winter and spring period. We’ve had a great experience here time and time again!
Our final tasting destination of the tour is the Hamilton Russel Vineyards. One of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa, this Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specialist was one of the first farms in the valley, many a wine experts have labelled their Chardonnay as the best in the world. We’ll let you decide as you enjoy 5 truly iconic South African wines.
We then say goodbye to the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley as start the 90 minute journey back to the Mother City. The Sir Lowry’s Pass cliff provides an incredible lookout point and is the perfect opportunity for one last memorable photo to go with the loads of fond memories of the tour.
