A DAY OUT TO REMEMBER
Arguably the most beautiful mountain pass in SA, a safari experience to savor, a countryside wine tasting and caves for the ages. This could easily be our most well rounded tour. The terrain and features will change drastically in each location as we discover the gateway to the Klein Karoo and make our way into the Swartberg mountains.
INCLUDED: PICK UP & DROP OFF, COFFEE STOP, ALL ENTRANCE FEES, 2 X TASTING EXPERIENCES, ON-BOARD SNACKS + WATER, ON-BOARD WIFI
THE ONLY WAY IS UP
Departing from George, Mossel Bay or Wilderness we’ll head for the mountains as we meander up the Outeniqua Pass. A quick coffee stop at one of the many roadside areas provides a fantastic photo opportunity if the early morning mist allows.
This pass never fails to impress and acts as the entry point to the stunning Klein Karoo. Game viewing, wines and pieces of history await. Opt for our 4X4 Vehicle and we’ll choose the road less taken for an even better experience.
SPOT THEM ALL
Hippo, Elephant, Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, Buffalo, Rhino, Springbok and much more. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is our 2nd morning activity. The vegetation differs slightly from the Kruger National Park but is equally as pleasing. More than 22 species of animals can be seen from an open air vehicle.
We’ll stop halfway through for refreshments at a scenic lookout point offer 360° offering panoramic views of the area as well as the Swartberg Mountains.
the going is easy
The halfway point of our Hopper Tour brings us to a most loved wine farm. Lakeside at the foot of the Swartberg Mountain, you’ll have the chance to sample some of the Karoo’s finest wines. This particular farm also has a knack for brewing several tasty craft beers, the perfect thirst quencher for a summers day (and it can get hot here).
A Tapa’s and Lunch menu gives you a number of options to refuel before we head for the pinnacle of the tour.
THE MAIN ATTRACTION
The chambers of the Cango Caves set the scene for our next stop. The finest dripstone caves, with their massive halls and towering limestone formations in a variety of colours. Thought to be over 150 000 years old with the first tour taking place in 1891 this is said to be South Africa’s oldest ‘tourist’ attraction.
Each chamber has it’s own phenomenal characteristics. A 90 minute ‘adventure tour’ is available for those who wish to venture deeper in this natural wonder.
You’ll love the ending
“A symbiosis between man and nature” is how the delightful owners describe our last stop. De Kombuys Estate is one of only a handful of destinations in SA that serve the worlds’ best free range beef.
The Marbled Wagyu Deli and Restaurant prides itself on sustainable, healthy, organic production of natural produce and award winning wines. You won’t want to leave and you don’t have to. The Swartberg sunset sets the tone for a celebratory end to the most incredible day.
